Robert Kennedy
An Ethical Leader
By Tracy Olortegui
Robert Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on November 20, 1925. Although his family enjoyed a life of wealth and privilege, they were always very thankful and stood up for those who were treated wrongfully. Bobby was a U.S. senator and the Attorney General in the presidential administration of his brother John F. Kennedy. Robert was an extremely popular political figure during the 1960s.
As Attorney General, he fought organized crime and was a key supporter of the civil rights movement. During his time in the Senate he made poverty, and civil rights work, the focus of his attention, and always fought for the abolition of discrimination at all levels of American society. This shows how his strong ethics and morals influence his work and motivation.
Robert Kennedy was committed to the civil rights movement and to the advancement of human rights worldwide. He was a firm supporter of the civil rights movement, and was very important in the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964. He traveled to Eastern Europe, Latin America and South Africa to expound upon his belief that all people should have a basic right to a democratic government. As the senator of New York, Robert initiated a number of projects, including assistance to underprivileged children and students with disabilities and the establishment of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to advance employment opportunities and living conditions in depressed areas of the state. He also believed that those who stand against injustice exhibit the highest form of courage.

Robert Kennedy was born on November 20, 1925 to Rose and Joseph P. Kennedy. Robert Kennedy enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Kennedy later then graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree of law. Kennedy was shot on the night of June 5th, 1968. He died a day later.
Robert Kennedy believed in giving right to those who did not have them. He also believed that all men were created equal and is equal before the law. He was a democrat who believed in liberalism and as a country, the U.S. should help people in poverty. In his own words, “We must begin to bring the talents, skill and resources of the private enterprise system into the struggle to end poverty and deprivation, in urban and rural America. Government must join in a partnership with industry, permitting private enterprise to help solve the problems of housing and unemployment in our deprived areas.” As a Mr. Kennedy said himself, “People are selfish, but they can also be compassionate and generous, and they care about the country. But not when they feel threatened. That's why this is such a crucial time. We can go in either direction. But if we don't make a choice soon, it will be too late to turn things around. I think people are willing to make the right choice. But they need leadership. They're hungry for leadership.”
